I am an Associate Professor at the University of Alberta’s Department of Economics. I hold a Canada Research Chair in Energy Economics and Policy and am the President of the Canadian Association for Energy Economics. My research lies at the intersection of energy economics, industrial organization, and regulatory policy. I have published over two dozen articles in journals including the Journal of Industrial Economics, International Journal of Industrial Organization, The Energy Journal, Resource and Energy Economics, Energy Economics, and Canadian Journal of Economics, among others. My recent research considers questions related to electricity market design, market power execution in wholesale and retail electricity markets, designing regulations to motivate utilities to invest in cost-effective distributed energy resources, and analyzing the impacts of compensation policies on renewable investment.

Healthcare Econometrics ResearcherUniversity Of Florida Institute For Child Health Policy Jan 2013 - May 2014Gainesville, Florida AreaMy work at the Institute for Child Health Policy (ICHP) involves developing a wide-array of statistical models to evaluate the performance of healthcare policies on reducing costs and improving healthcare outcomes. In particular, I implemented a newly adopted Bayesian Surname and Geocoding Imputation Method to account for missing race/ethnicity data. I use these imputed race probabilities to gain insight into the disparities in the provision of healthcare services across individual’s characteristics such as race, gender, and age.

Our objective was to to explain the tendency of some investors to hold onto losing stocks too long and sell winning stocks prematurely, resulting in price distortions in the market which appear as momentum as market forces act to correct these discrepancies. Using stock market data provided by State Street Global Advisers (SSGA), we used several stock price forecasting models to model momentum in stock prices.
