  When I started at NOVA, I was already working in the disability sector, but prior to that I worked with Telecom as a frontline manager. I’ve been able to build my management skills in new ways at NOVA.It can be challenging to deliver a service across three locations with nomadic staff – challenging for staff that often need to travel to meet clients and challenging for clients who often need to travel for work. It’s my job to minimise stress so that staff can do their jobs well and take care of our clients.I’ve learned to prioritise my staff and ensure a conflict-free group dynamic – happy and satisfied staff are usually long-term staff. Managing staff is one of the parts I enjoy most about my job. We all enjoy each other’s company and that makes a difference when challenges come up.I also really enjoy providing training for NOVA staff and delivering training for other organisations, building awareness around what it’s like to be deaf or hearing-impaired in a speaking community. The learning is often transformational – often staff realise things they’ve never even considered.Within Sydney’s deaf community, everyone knows NOVA. We have a reputation for successfully placing our clients and we often refer people to the Deaf Society if they live closer to Parramatta. People contact us from as far away as India and America - but we really only service clients who can travel to one of our three offices and find work within the Sydney area.
