(Formerly R&D Manager at Advratech, LLC – Acquired by Universal Technology on 1 October 2016) Managing the principal investigators (PIs) within the UTC R&D Group executing multiple federally-funded research projects. These activities include handling day-to-day programmatic issues, capturing future sponsors, conducting business development activities with existing and potential end-users of the technology, ensuring contract compliance, overseeing proposal generation and recruitment of new PIs. Within the first 26 months, built the R&D Group from two government contracts worth $1.1M to ten government contracts worth over $4.1M. Current areas of funded research include metallic additive manufacturing, graphene-based chemical sensors for CWAs and TICs, THz spectrometry for analysis of breath biomarkers, cognitive algorithms for radar systems and machine learning for assessing supply chain risks.

Supervised all day-to-day activities in the production of graphene and graphene-based products in Dayton, OH and oversaw start-up operations of Taiwan facility. These responsibilities included identifying untapped markets, directing and managing the efforts of the business development team, negotiating supply and research agreements with customers, establishing and meeting production and project deadlines, and coordinating efforts between production and research personnel. Additional responsibilities included enforcing compliance with environmental, safety and health regulations, and maintaining the quality management system.

Directed research efforts, managed $2.5M R&D portfolio and led a diverse group of engineers, scientists, and technicians. Extensive experience interfacing with funding organizations, including DOD, DOE, NSF, EPA, USDA, and the State of Ohio. Developed a high capacity silicon/nanofiber anode for lithium ion batteries resulting in an invitation to present at an Industry-led Consortium project sponsored by ATK, Curtis Wright, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and SAIC - one of ten companies selected out of over 75 firms.

Supervised 24/7 production operations to meet product delivery schedules, allocated resources to maximize output per unit cost without sacrificing quality, and developed techniques and procedures for engineering of the final product for various applications. Empowered and motivated production staff to meet ship dates and quality requirements. Successfully secured a Consent Order from the US EPA for the manufacture of substances (nanomaterials) registered on the US EPA TSCA (Toxic Substance Control Act) list. Served as company representative who interacted directly with the US EPA and local environmental regulatory agencies to maintain compliance.

Supervised inspection and testing of intermediate and final products, implemented new testing procedures, recommended improvements to the production process and product, and oversaw remediation of off-spec materials. Implemented the world’s first quality control system for fibrous nanomaterials. These efforts led to an invitation to present at the inaugural Workshop on Standardization for Carbon Nanotubes organized by the European NanoBusiness Association and to the adoption of several developed standards by the nanomaterials industry. Also well-versed in numerous characterization techniques including EM, XRD, XPS, IGC, SA.

Wrote technical proposals, set schedules, assigned resources to meet the project deadlines, and implemented changes in project scope. Managed various programs involving the production of vapor-grown carbon fibers and their application in electrical, mechanical, and thermal applications.• Successfully managed programs leading to the: - development of techniques for characterizing key properties of the carbon nanofiber. - identification of processing equipment for dispersion of nanomaterials. - development of new nanofiber products for improved composite performance.

Coordinated laboratory experiments with program managers, data analysis, and supporting proposal and report writing efforts.
