About David Last

Since 2024, I am a Software Team Lead for STR. I lead a multi-company team to develop new software to meet customer needs for domain-specific problems. My first project was the Custody Engine, which deals with scheduling spy satellites and other sensor platforms to maintain custody of targets across the battlespace.From 2019 to 2024, I was a Principal Investigator at Raytheon BBN Technologies. I wrote proposals towards government research programs, and I managed the research team once we won the contract. I have worked on projects with - blockchain for Command and Control- multi-domain kill webs (I need to take out this target! What air/land/maritime/space/cyber options do I have?).From 2022 to 2024, I was Software Project Manager at Raytheon BBN Technologies for one of the component technologies in the next-generation Air Battle Management System (ABMS), which NORAD is using to defend the United States against air threats (ICBMs, adversary aircraft, highjacked commercial airliners).Prior to that, I graduated with my PhD in Computer Engineering/Cybersecurity in 2013. I worked for the Air Force Research Laboratory 2013-2019 as the technical lead on a Program Management team that managed a number of external research contracts. 2017-2019 I was assigned to the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) under a scientist exchange program.
