About David Calabrese

I am a classically trained synthetic organic chemist with over 11 years of experience. I have worked on projects related to synthetic methodology, medicinal chemistry, polymer synthesis, and surface chemistry. I am an expert on the design, synthesis, and characterization (physical and biophysical) of complex molecules.I am currently a postdoctoral fellow at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), in John Schneekloth’s group, where I have developed methods and technologies to discover and study nucleic acid binding small molecules that selectively silence cancer related genes. I have synthesized multiple libraries of biologically relevant compounds, developed a structure-activity relationship, and helped determine the NMR structure for how these compounds bind to the DNA. This work for development of potential cancer therapeutics has been incredibly exciting and rewarding, and has allowed me to collaborate with brilliant researchers from different fields.I previously earned my Ph.D. at Cornell University in Christopher Ober and Jon Njarðarson’s groups where I was trained in organic synthesis for new synthetic methodologies and biologically applied materials. My goal is to use synthetic background for medicinal chemistry. I look forward to connecting with you.
