About David Castillo
Early in my career, I worked as pharmacy manager for 5 years at VONS following my work there as an intern from 2009 and starting in 2011 after graduating pharmacy school. It was a challenging and rewarding experience, having been placed in a store that was in dire need of a turnaround after its previous pharmacy manager left 4 years prior to my arrival. I was provided with an excellent and experienced staff, and as ambitious and disciplined individuals we were able to help the pharmacy make profits and increase script count from 1000 scripts per week to 1300 scripts per week in one and one-half years. I then worked as a Medication Therapy Management pharmacist with MedWatchers in 2017 for a year and a half. I decided to work at MedWatchers to help develop my clinical experience and take advantage of my bilingual talent, especially helping communicate with our Spanish speaking patients. Wanting to go back to a retail pharmacy setting with a company that shared similar values as VONS did, I started working at Hillcrest Pharmacy, which specialized in antiretroviral therapy and diabetes care, its motto aligned with my own core beliefs, providing for the community. After taking a three month hiatus from working I wanted to desperately help with the COVID-19 vaccinations and started working at Rite Aid to help with their clinics and as their relief pharmacist. I now desire a unique opportunity to not only expand my clinical expertise but also actively contribute to patient care, research, and education, aligning with my passion for advancing pharmaceutical practice and positively impacting the broader healthcare community.
