Part of site location team.- SMX 651 Radial Forging machine – from SMS Meer, at the time of purchase was a copy of the worlds largest hydraulic radial forging press, the original machine built for Bao Steel, Shanghai China. Visited Bao Steel several times in the investigation process of plant design.- 13 Mton VIM “Vacuum induction melting and casting furnace”, from ALD Vacuum Technologies, Hanau, Germany.

Responsibilities include all aspects of plant electrical design and integration from main power distribution (345,000 - 34,500 - 4,160 - 480 volts to 24 volts), to all systems control, (PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, instrumentation, Level 2 data collection). I was the 5th member hired on the initial IDI team that represented and negotiated IDI’s interest in all major purchases and design of equipment; (1) L. Lehtinen – VP General Manager, (2) CFO, (3) Mechanical Engineer, (4) Plant Manager, (5) Electrical Engineer – D. Chappie. The Iron Dynamics management group acted, as it’s own general contractor during the construction of the project. Directly responsible for managing all electrical aspect of design, construction, commissioning, maintenance and operations of this Greenfield project, from before first ground break, through production and maintenance support. During evolution of IDI plant, we have reprogrammed and modified 85% of the original vendor supplied PLC and HMI, in house. Major areas of plant include: rotary rail car dumper, material handling, ore prep & beneficiating, Williams Patent Crusher & Pulverizer, MHIA rotary hearth dryer, Bricmont - 50 meter rotary hearth furnace (when built - largest in world), Mannesmann Demag 48 MVA submerged arc furnace, water treatment plant, Wheelabrator RHF offgas system, Voest SAF offgas system, GE gear – main sub station, primary and secondary sub stations, power distribution, 1500 kva Caterpillar emergency generator ABB continuous gas monitoring. -
