In my present role with Azure Capital, I manage the HK/China and Indonesia portfolios. In my previous role with Pine Forest Capital, I was part of a two-man research team tasked to cover the China/HK and ASEAN markets as a generalist. This coverage was challenging for a team of our size but it has allowed me to hone my research and analytical skills. As a result, I have learnt to synthesize and identify vital piece of information to assess companies in order to make the appropriate investment decisions in this fast moving market. A major part of my work scope entailed identifying companies whose share prices had fallen out of favor or companies with relatively attractive valuations than peers. This included doing a deep dive in the industries and understanding the drivers behind them. From there, I would scrutinize the companies’ financials to assess whether the numbers reflect realism and perform a cross sectional comparison with its peers. Lastly, with the relevant information gathered, I would create forward earnings models of these companies, compare it with consensus, and formulate a recommendation of these companies.
