PSC at Muja Power StationThe position of Power Station Controller at Muja Power Station is a combination of three different rotational roles, which is rotated between all the controllers on shift cycles. This requires me to hold and maintain High Risk Work Licences for Boiler and Turbine operations, as well as Western-Power switching authority. In addition, I am part of the Emergency Response Team and other work groups relating to H&S, Training and PSM. 1.Permit officer and shift leaderIsolating mechanical and electrical plant and issue maintenance access permits to maintenance staff and doubles as shift team leader which is responsible for afterhours production decision making.2.Unit controllerOperate and control any one of the Stage CD units which consists of 2x200Mw coal fired boilers with Parsons Turbines or 2x220Mw Units with Toshiba Turbines in compliance with safe, efficient and environmental policies and procedures. Also do remote switching on High voltage apparatus as required by system control or as required by the station electrical reticulation.3.Outside plant dutiesOperate and control all auxiliary plant relating to the generating plant and assist the permit officer and unit controllers for the safe operating activities relating to unit movements and safe systems of work.

Peterhead Power Station

Provide power plant system engineerning support to shift staff and the engineering team. Investigate incidents, establish root cause and make recommendations. Monitor and improve plant performance. Develop and maintain operating procedures. Provide production support to maximise availability,reliability and efficiency of the plant without comprimising safety or impact on the environment. Provide input into the station work control process to reduce risk to plant and personnel and supply production risk assessments to authorised persons. Represent production in the station's outage process, by preparing and controlling outage isolation schedules.

Peterhead Power Station

Manage a shift production team and co-ordinate maintenance events, operating and monitoring an 1180MW CCGT plant. Manage the safe systems of work process, acting as the senior authorised person, carrying out: HV switching and isolations of up to 275kv apparatus,and issuing all safety documentation as required for access to and work on all mechanical and LV electrical plant. Ensure that safety standards are maintained by taking an active role in safety audits, safety inspections and risk assessments. Undertakes training, coaching, competency assessments and appraisals of shift staff. Acts as Incident Commander during out of hours emergency situations.

Peterhead Power Station

Co-ordinate control room and associated external auxiliary activities to enable operation of: 2x 660MW oil/gas fired Rankin steam boiler turbine units, 3x 265MW advanced Siemens Gas Turbines and associated HRSG's, and 2x 120MW Open Cycle Diesel/Gas fired John Brown Gas Turbines.Plan, co-ordinate and monitor process to ensure optimal plant and resource utilisation in meeting production demands consistent with safety and environmental standards. Provides technical support to shift team and maintenance staff as well as fault finding and incident investigations. Solve those issues with the team or source engineering and maintenance assisstance. Operate control systems as required from control room panels. Acts as Incident Controller during emergency situations and form part of shift fire team.

Majuba Power Station

Supervise and assist with the day to day operation and two-shift operation of: 3x 665MW dry-cooled and 3x 712MW wet-cooled, coal fired units. Isolate plant and issue PTW for maintenance activities. Carry out training and assessments on Unit Controllers and plant operstors. Shift Fire team captain. Trained up to the level of advanced industrial fire fighter.

Majuba Power Station

Control and operate the Turbine, Boiler, Generator and auxiliary systems of a 665MW dry-cooled or 712MW wet-cooled coal fired unit. On job trainer for new control room operators. Spend a year in the production commissioning department while commissioning the first wet-cooled unit and new Siemens Teleperm XP operating system. During this period I received a management award for Technical Excellence from the station management team.

Majuba Power Station

Assist the unit controller to operate the unit plant, in doing all the necessary outside operations and plant checks. Ensure plant is kept in stand-by condition and perform pre-start operations. Isolate and de-isolate plant on shift supervisor instruction. Trained as first aider and shift fire team member.

Matimba Power Station

General plant operational duties on the coal plant, ash plant and station services plant.
