I work in a busy Stroke Service, catchment area 500k, special interests in teaching and research. I started our Stroke Prevention Clinic in 1999, Acute Stroke Unit in 2004, thrombolysis in 2006 (over 1250 treated to date) - and thrombectomy by drip-and-ship to Charing Cross HospitalRESEARCH - we are members of the North Thames Clinical Research Network and recruit (or have recruited) to many trials in stroke including CADISS, CLOTS 1 & 3, DNA lacunar 1 & 2, ENOS, FOCUS, GALA, IST 3… Show more I work in a busy Stroke Service, catchment area 500k, special interests in teaching and research. I have a particular interest in 1) how patient's react after a TIA (often delaying seeking medical advice for a variety of reasons)2) atrial fibrillation (AF) - the extent of failure to detect or protect from stroke by anticoagulation; how best to introduce NOACS (New Oral Anticoagulants)3) testing cognitive function post-stroke using Oxford Cognitive Screen (OCS)4) Stroke links with CancerI have given presentations at national and international meetings, including the American Academy of Neurology, Asian-Pacific Stroke Conference, European Stroke Conference, Nordic Stroke Conference and World Stroke CongressPUBLICATIONS - I have published in many peer-reviewed journals, with over 420 citations, h-index 10, including contributions to "Stroke Medicine: Case Studies from Queen's Square" (Springer 2015)TEACHING - I am the stroke lead for the M Sc in Cardiology and Stroke, which has enrolled over 60 UK and overseas students, at the University of Hertfordshire, and teach students on their annual course for anticoagulant nurses and on their Associate Physicians course. I am Assistant Professor at St George's University of the West Indies. I teach undergraduate students from UCL, Imperial College and St George's University, and nurses and therapists working at W Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust Show less
