The group designed and implemented firmware and hardware solutions for products that require standardized embedded network interfaces and protocols. Responsibilities: embedded hardware and firmware design, writing ‘C’ code to support system monitoring; design and implementation of all user interfaces (graphical, textual and network various protocols). Main focus on products used to provide Network Critical Physical Infrastructure (NCPI). These products offers APC’s full network support suite; including: HTML, Telnet and SNMP interfaces; local display user interface; alarm and event notification via email.◊ Responsible for the electrical and firmware design and implementation of a 3-phase power monitoring system. This multi-processor system is used to monitor the power supplying critical datacenter equipment. Features of the design included: sampling of multiple 3-phase voltage and current waveforms; RMS voltage/current and real/apparent power measurements; alarms generation based on electrical measurements; embedded web-server for remote access; Telnet & SNMP access; event and data logging; alarm reporting via email and SNMP. Network management and user interfaces coded in ‘C’ in a real-time environment. The power measurement system was coded in mixed assembly and ‘C’.◊ Designed and implemented the monitoring and control for standardized 125 and 200 kW standby power generation systems, used to support NCPI applications. Systems included automatic transfer switches (ATS) up to 800 amps, based on motorized circuit breakers. Sample level monitoring of input voltages allows the ATS to be switched so that power interruption to the load was minimized. Responsible for firmware and electrical control design and implementation.◊ Designed the monitoring and control for a rack air-removal system, used to cool the next generation of high-density blades servers.

The RTXC real-time kernel was applied, with coding done in ‘C’. The product’s hardware architecture utilizes multiple 8051 and PIC micro-controllers, with inter-module communications via I2C.◊ Worked as part of a team of 4 engineers that developed APC’s MasterSwitch product. APC’s first web-based product, it employed an embedded web-server, and allowed the user to remotely control electrical outlets using a web-browser.◊ Implemented a standard architecture using the Intel 8051 family, which facilitated rapid development of the SmartSlot line of accessories used with APC’s UPS products. Functionality provided by these accessories includes: remote (modem) terminal interfaces, UPS monitoring port expansion, environmental monitoring, contact inputs/outputs, event logging and paging.
