My decade of experience as a researcher has greatly aided me in my time as an IRB professional. Highlights from my past 6 years as an IRB professional include:- Training 6 IRB staff members in in-person and completely remote environments; - Spear-heading Temple University's initial AAHRPP Accreditation (in-person) and successful Re-Accreditation (remotely);- Implementing policies to reduce regulatory burden and allowing flexibility for researchers in the face of COVID-19;- Developing multiple data checks and processes to enhance our Quality Assurance practices; and- Guiding Temple University through the transition to Revised Common Rule, while embracing regulatory flexibility with protocols not regulated by the federal government.Working as an IRB professional allows for a beautiful marriage of my interests. I can: - See cutting edge research, before it hits the journals; - Innovate new ways to better facilitate IRB submissions, while maintaining essential subject protections; - Generate and use data to guide decision-making and resource allocation; and - Be challenged by an ever-evolving regulatory landscape.
