I develop survey questions that deliver meaningful measures of expectations and utility. I also use secondary data (e.g. on home purchases) to reveal systematic biases in human judgment. Central themes in my research include:- Debiasing measures of utility e.g. Comerford, 2011; Comerford and Ubel, 2013; Angott, Comerford and Ubel, 2013; Comerford and Lades, 2021.- Subjective life expectancy and its role in financial planningHere I experiment in the elicitation of subjective life expectancy e.g. Comerford and Robinson, 2017; Comerford, 2019; Bell, Comerford and Douglas, 2020; Robinson and Comerford, 2020; Comerford, 2021.- Labeling effects:Here I explore the inferences that people make from labels on products e.g. Ubel, Comerford and Johnson, 2015; Comerford, Lange and Moro, 2018; Sejas-Portillo, Comerford, Moro and Stowasser, 2020; Comerford, Sejas-Portillo, Moro and Stowasser, 2021).- By what process do people judge change over time? In work with Jack Soll, I explore the role of affect in forecasts, hindcasts and investment decisions.
