The opportunity to start a new business within the Moxon Timbers business in Brisbane was the challenge I was looking for after 23 years at Boral Timber. Tony Moxon had built a new a new facility at Stapylton with room for expansion in the coming years. The plan was to put my DFC Timber business plan in place at Moxon Timbers selling Framing, Flooring, Hardwood Structural, Decking, Plywood, Joinery Hardwood and Particle Board to the Timber Merchants, Truss & Frame and Flooring Merchants/Installers. The housing market in 2012 was slowing so plan was going to be challenge in a drying market but five other work colleagues supported my plan knowing it was going to be tough. Moxon Timbers had very good access to products both local and overseas and two key supply lines were Vaagen in the USA and Hurfords Flooring range in Lismore which would be the base for our sales growth. The support from our customers has been fantastic and the support from Tony and Mark has been excellent, we have managed to grow this business year on year even dealing with the bad debts that have hit the timber industry hard over the last two years. The housing market has started to improve slightly so we see a year of very strong growth over the previous year.Thanks for readingDavid

My employment started with Boral Timber when they purchased Pinepac Australia in October 1988.This was when Boral was in its early stages of growing its Timber business and we had a successful Softwood business in Brisbane which at the time was selling Softwood from Boral's Bathurst and Oberon operations. The business continued to grow with other acquisition taking place over the following five years and one of the key ones was the Duncans which gave us a complete range of hardwood products, which at the time was the best on the market. This was a great time at Boral Timber helping to build a business with some really great people who have since retired. I set about improving our warehousing system to service our customers as the market was demanding a more of a just in time service and to change this was going take some time and really right to end I worked hard to achieve what I believe was the best service level in the market, but you can not do this without some really committed employees which I had right to the end of me leaving the business. The great thing was we could see the new warehousing approach working and at times we were struggling to keep up with demand and had to go outside the Boral Timber manufacturing system to buy stock and this was from our competitors and some said it would not work but it did and it worked very well over the years. The other producers were wary at first thinking what is he up to but over time I have built some great relationships with other producers and sold a lot of stock for them from our warehousing system. The Boral Timber business changed in last three or four years as we all have to but in some areas the change it did work as well as it should have and this was going to take time and some can do people with timber knowledge to fix. My 23 years at Boral Timber was a great experience and built my career as good leader.O
