As a social care workers, I worked with young people of all backgrounds in a residential care setting. Primarily based in residential houses, I joined a residential care team based in housing units throughout southern Ireland. In my role I acted as the support and care worker to young people in the house, working towards achieving better outcomes for young people. It was important for me to think on my feet while also maintaining clear lines of communication with my colleagues when supporting, or defusing situations involving the young people. Skills critical to the position included the ability to build honest, trusting relationships with the young persons while also maintaining a professional, supportive relationship. I gained a great wealth of experience dealing with individuals who have challenging behaviours, including drug abuse, abusive behaviour, violent outbursts through means of communication and training. I have also gained experience completing paperwork/online documentation as well as communications with social workers, police, and medical professionals.

As a personal assistant, I worked in an organization which followed a philosophy of independent living, with the aim to help individuals with disabilities live more independent lives., working for self-determination, self-respect and equal opportunities. Working as a personal assistant I assisted individuals with a broad range of disabilities in their daily lives, assisting with time and daily management, feeding, cooking, cleaning, changing, accompaniment on social outings/ to appointments, management of money and much more.
