Dave and I worked closely together to ensure that the Thermal Printing System met business goals for printing speed, cost, quality and reliability. Dave was outstanding at managing the printer and SW portion of the system. He has tremendous experience in the design and development of electromechanical devices and in establishing critical aspects of manufacturing and technology transfer. Under Dave’s leadership, Thermal Printing at Kodak was transformed to yield exactly the right balance of features, reliability and cost in digital photo printing. He oversaw significant changes in printer manufacturing as Kodak moved from an internal production printing model to an external supplier and ODM model. During this time period, Dave was careful to ensure that we retained the right resources to properly insure system reliability and robustness in a highly interactive media/hardware/SW printing system. As a people leader, Dave is also exceptional. He is a down-to-earth manager that knows when to listen and when to take action. He was universally respected for his technical knowledge and his ability to motivate others and work cooperatively across organizations to achieve business goals. He had a great knack for getting the right people into the right positions that allowed them to excel and the organization to meet its challenging deliverables. Dave also used his influence with senior management to drive the right investments to grow the business. Dave consistently demonstrated excellent organizational, communication, analytical and leadership skills, which, I’m sure, helped accelerate his advancement within the organization to the position of Division Manager. Under Dave’s leadership and engineering guidance several generations of Thermal Printers and Thermal Printing Systems have been integrated into the marketplace, which have generated tens of millions of dollars in earnings for Eastman Kodak. It was a loss for me personally and for Eastman Kodak in general when Dave accepted the position as Vice President of Engineering at Zebra Technologies. I miss our working relationship and would definitely recommend Dave for any position or situation requiring levelheaded thinking, trust, leadership and performance.
