About David Crawley Phd

I'm the founder of a company that builds robots, builds custom robots and answers strategic questions about robots. As such my main activity is building a company that builds robots that help other robot entrepreneurs build robots and companies. This ties in to the business side of me (McKinsey Alum., Author of a book on innovation, Keynote speaker, Prodigious cost cutter) as well as the technical side of me (Physics PhD, PostDoc & Fellow at The University of Cambridge, multiple patents, multiple highly cited peer reviewed papers).In addition to custom robots, we also build for specific use cases such as material conveyance robots for warehouses and factories. We focus on making our robots easy to use and have differentiated offerings compared to typical AMR and AGV. Even now I still consult on both the business and technical side of this problem - frankly the two sides of this problem can't be separated.Prior to running a company that builds robots I ran a strategic initiatives group at Cypress Semiconductor (now part of Infineon) where I worked with every business unit and every sector of the business and did things like help cut product development cycle time from 326 weeks down to 17 weeks by applying Lean methods. I also cut cost deeply. I apply everything I learned there to building robots. Prior to that I also worked at McKinsey which was terrific fun and I learned a tremendous amount again I did lots of cost cutting. But you know what, it isn't as much fun as founding your own company and not just any company a company that builds robots. The great thing about running a robot company is that since I was little I've always loved building things. Even to this day, friends and family recall my precocious tendencies to construct machines.
