David implemented a workflow engine for defining and implementing video processing (VP) jobs where tasks are modeled as microservices. This effort provides a means for adapting and integrating different transcoders or other processing equipment in workflows. This system was used to implement workflows for such live events as the French Open, Wimbledon and the Masters. With this infrastructure, David recently completed work for accurately identifying frames of content and ads, distinguishing local ads from national ads based on SCTE-104 and SCTE-35 events that will be used to automate C3 processing. This work involved writing FFmpeg filters for analyzing video for fade transitions, distinguishing very dark frames from black frames and detecting scene changes. This adaptation was used to process content for the Discovery Channel and distribute to affiliates under a tight SLA.David also helped to apply this video infrastructure to integrate asset management with IBM Watson for video enrichment. This VP infrastructure runs in AWS and is multi-zone available and scalable.David was co-inventor of an abstract DRM system that provides interfaces for key store and entitlements. This abstraction supports integration of various DRM systems including Common Encryption (CENC), Microsoft PlayReady, Google Widevine, Adobe Primetime and Apple FairPlay Streaming. Patent application in progress.David completed development of an abstract object store that adapts to different storage technologies such as S3, Cleversafe and HDFS using OSGi bundles. This project is also responsible for reliable, efficient transfer of objects and provides means for replication and migration. Technologies used include Java, C, OSGi, Jackson, Jersey, Tomcat, MySQL, Postgres and ANTLR.

As a member of the Clearflow engineering team, David was responsible for building the file system and network management layer for Clearleap (CLFS). To date the file system has implemented replication of video content between data centers using dynamic bandwidth throttling as well as caching and distribution of video content. The file system implements an authenticated REST API providing access to content. Currently CLFS Integrates with with Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS), Amazon S3 and Cleversafe. After he started with Clearleap, David specified a REST interface for remote management of video processing tasks including analysis, transcoding and quality control that is adaptable to interfaces to specific products. David implemented such an adapter for Elemental transcoding in the AWS cloud that is scalable and available in multiple zones. He also implemented a scheduler that manages the size of the Elemental cluster based on schedule of events requiring transcoding. David implemented a work flow engine as part of an infrastructure supporting development of video processing adapters (VPAs). David has also led development of VPAs for products including Telestream Vantage, Telestream Episode, Harmonic ProMedia Carbon (formerly Rhozet), Baton QC, DTS TSA (formerly Manzanita CrossCheck), Microsoft Azure and Watson Video Enrichment. For integration of video processing workflow with command line tools such as ffmpeg David built a REST interface for managing processes.David also wrote a file transfer layer for managing multipart, multi-threaded transfers of files between HTTP content stores, HDFS, S3, CIFS, local file stores and Microsoft Azure.David's work has been used in the support of such customers as NFL, iNDEMAND, MultiChoice, HBO, providing reliable video processing, multi-zone and multi-region available, that consistently met SLAs.David also implemented an authentication library for Clearleap APIs based on OAuth.
