In serving as Chairman to ADS, the Premier Trade Organisation for all companies operating in the UK Aerospace, Defence, Security and Space industries, I advised and liaised between the UK industry and the UK MOD, DIT-DSO and FCO, with the purpose of identifying and strengthening government-to-government strategic prosperity opportunities.I also consolidated information, briefing points and communications towards the UK Government on international opportunities, generating thorough and creative UK end-to-end solutions for the CBRN challenges, and provided a centralized briefing point to industry for UK Government.In this role, I am proudest of having:• Closely collaborated with the UK Government on the creation of its CBRN industrial strategy.

R & D manager of all CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear) programs in airborne and surface decontamination, disinfection and detoxification, addressing the needs for personnel, transport, particle scrubbing and sensitive equipment in both the civil and military markets.Role included providing CBRN-HAZMAT expertise and advise across all lines of business (LOB), ensuring understanding of operational processes and procedures, as well as formal and informal lines of communication within the decontamination business community, and how they relate to/affect potential and current projects and products. Strategic technology innovation and engineering interface support through formulation of new decontamination procedures, including development of bespoke CBRN decontamination trials using live agents. For example, developing PDX atomization technology for applying advanced knock-down/ tie-down coatings for nuclear decontamination-decommissioning. For Chemical and Biological threat mitigation work encompassed the development, evaluation and benchmarking of new decontaminants for use with PDX Products lines. Account management, negotiation and engagement with principal CBRN-HAZMAT stakeholders throughout the international business community. New business development including technology innovation and consultancy, conceptual design, application and implementation of new projects

Portfolio of responsibilities included the development of smart sequestering agents for CBRN decontamination. Utilizing high throughput parallel synthesis, radiochemistry and environmental remediation technology the RN sections of this work involved regular use of open isotopic sources (including 60Co, 75Se, 90Sr, 137Cs 241Am, 226Ra and Pu amongst others). Smart sensing elements involved the development of novel polychalcophene materials for Field Effect Transistor (FET) and agent selective detection applications. Liaising with various academic, governmental and industrial collaborators the role regularly involved preparing presentations and peer reviewed reports for a range of scientific and non-scientific audiences. (34 papers and 8 Patents published) Internal teaching role included supervision of scientific undergraduate teaching labs, workshops and tutorials. Program management included support of undergraduates (BSc & MChem) and postgraduates (MSc & PhD) in the capacity of tutor and second supervisor, providing line-management whilst in studies. Other research interests included: synthesis and functionalization of polymers and particles for the selective remediation of water, surfaces and atmospheres; functionalization of carbon structures; polymer chemistry (including RAFT, ATRP and functionalized micro-porous resins); organic electronics, chalcophene compounds (selenophene chemistry in particular) and nanotechnology.

Responsibilities included:• Supervision and management of a team of 5-10 Chemists of varying experience and qualifications through performance driven metrics.• Development, improvement and implementation of commercially viable, appropriately scaled, synthetic routes to a variety of pharmaceutical substrates to strict deadlines. EH40 evaluation program developed a range of Porphyrin / Phthalocyanine -based gas sensors for environmental NOx monitoring (Industrial placement for BSc course). Experience of Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) thin film technique. Expertise in Porphyrin / Phthalocyanine chemistry and material characterisation.External collaboration with University of East Anglia including off site visits.
