Clarkson University Site Director
The Center for Metamaterials (CfM) is an National Science Foundation Industry/University Cooperative Research Center. The CfM is composed of Clarkson University, City University of New York, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and Western Carolina University. Industry member companies include Raytheon, Corning, Xerox, USAF, Army, UTC, Phoebus Optoelectronics, AFRL, Cobham, MIT Lincoln Labs. The CfM provides a forum for cooperative research on the development and application of metamaterials, photonic crystals, plasmonic crystals and transformational optics. Metamaterials are patterned and/or composite materials that exhibit effective permittivity, permeability or refractive index properties not found in nature. Applications of metamaterials include "perfect" lenses, cloaking, light harvesting, slowing and trapping light, renewable energy devices, sensors and imaging systems.
Director, The Industry University Cooperative Research Center For Metamaterials
The Center for Metamaterials (CfM) designs, fabricates, and tests a wide range of metamaterials. Its mission is to advance fundamental and applied metamaterials research, development, and technology transfer through strong collaborations between industry and universities. There is strong industry interest in metamaterials, as they are being used to develop new or higher-performing optical, electronic, and acoustic devices.
