Metadata Librarian
The Metadata Librarian at Drexel University Libraries (DUL) is responsible for the development of workflows, resource allocation across activities, appropriate assessment of metadata services to gauge success, and the creation, transformation, and maintenance of DUL's metadata content used in tools, technologies, and services involving a variety of formats. In collaboration with DUL colleagues, the Metadata Librarian develops and executes plans that facilitate the discovery and evaluation of resources to the Drexel community and the exposure of Drexel University-created data and metadata to learners and researchers everywhere. The Metadata Librarian supervises two staff and reports to the Manager of the Discovery Program, in the Data & Digital Stewardship division.• Oversee, assess, and continuously improve metadata services• Create and update resource descriptions, individually and in batch (for DUL's digital repository and library management system and OCLC WorldCat) and lead the day-to-day functions of resource description• Perform batch loads and quality control for e-resource metadata in the library management system• Perform catalog maintenance functions in the library management system• Perform authority control functions in the library management system, including headings reports and batch updates via authority control vendor; act as NACO coordinator to approve new entities created by DUL staff• Export holdings data to DUL's partners, facilitating exposure of metadata for discovery and resource sharing• Participate in transformation and remediation of legacy metadata, including migration to linked data and other schemas• Participate in departmental knowledge management• Supervise non-exempt staff and encourage teamwork, communication, and participation• Engage in professional activities, including service, research, presentations, and/or publication

David and Lorraine Cheng Library at William Paterson University• Perform original and complex copy cataloging of all electronic resources and audiovisual media, as well as other materials in a variety of formats, using MARC, RDA, LCCS/LCSH, OCLC, and the Voyager integrated library system-- Manage bibliographic records for multiple ebook sources (Ebook Central, EBSCO, Credo, etc.) and ownership types (subscription, DDA, purchased)-- Conduct periodic full inventories of all our ebook holdings (175,000+ titles)• Maintain the integrity of the catalog; involves significant batch metadata editing• Develop and implement quality control and batch processing routines for all bibliographic record loads• Develop departmental policies, best practices, and procedures, especially in the area of emerging formats, including linked data and BIBFRAME• Collaborate with Library Information Systems (LIS), creating reports and workflows in support of division goals• Provide leadership to other library departments on projects related to bibliographic control and metadata issues• Instruct classes as part of the library's User Education program• Serve as the library's liaison to the Departments of Biology and Environmental Science• Provide collection development for library's biology and environmental science resources• Serve weekly shift at reference desk during semester• Notable projects include:-- Extensively cleaned up our entire catalog (~400,000 records) to improve the display of records in our VuFind public catalog; also implemented a more accurate cataloging statistics tracking system-- Cataloged digital versions of hundreds of films that we transferred from VHS under Section 108 C of the US Copyright Law-- Heavily weeded our outdated biology collection, discarding thousands of books published before 1990-- Collaborated with Digital Initiatives Librarian on Dublin Core metadata for revising legacy CONTENTdm collections
