Designing tooling and robotics for reactor systems inspections: FIDS, ANDE, MRD, Six-Pack, Roll-Joint Leak Test Tool, etc. Corporate awards for a project to isolate, extract, and safely store an extremely radioactive particle in an active CANDU reactor. Four robotic crawlers were developed and used at the customer's site. The project was conceived and implemented in a very short time and successfully removed the particle with very low personnel dose take up.

1) Completed the design, and installation of the 250kWe tubular SOFC generator - natural-gas fuelled and grid-connected. Operated the prototype plant for 1000 hours and multiple start/stop cycles.2) Analysis of one year's worth of hourly electric consumption data retrieved from 50 homes. Development of a computer model to simulate and predict the consumption patterns of homes given and inventory of the appliances and occupancy of a home that was then benchmarked against the field data.3) Composed the engineering specification documents and arranged for the fabrication and installation of three ~1MW water turbines installed in a large city's municipal water supply system. The turbines replaced large flow control valves and converted the energy from the water control (pressure drop) to useable electrical energy the customer could feed back to the grid.

Emerging Energy Technologies: 1) Designed and implemented a lab-scale isotope separation process using temperature programming of molecular sieve material. 2) Co-designed with an external research partner a high-temperature, high-pressure test facility for performance testing of tubular Solid-Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC). 3) Co-designed, and constructed with an external research partner a 250kWe tubular SOFC generator - natural-gas fuelled and grid-connected.

Utilization Section: Various research projects in the electric customer end-use and energy management of A/C, Heat Pump and Refrigeration systems . Performed lab tests and field monitoring of customer heat pump and refrigeration equipment; Designed, developed, and tested innovative dual-fuel heat pump options; Won a corporate award for design of a small 3.5kW direct-expansion/ hydronic heat pump system as replacement for electric unit heaters in a northern motel. Multiple papers and reports produced.
