Penguin International was a division of Penguin Books based in Toronto that comprised Penguin Canada, Penguin India, Penguin South Africa and Penguin Arabia.

Pearson India was a division of Pearson that comprised Penguin India, Pearson Education India and Dorling Kindersley India.

Added the duties of CEO while continuing as Publisher of Penguin India.

Joined Penguin in mid-1985, trained for approx six months at Penguin HQ in London, then moved to Delhi to be part of the founding team at Penguin India. I set up the company's editorial department and was in charge of its publishing programme from its inception until I was transferred to Canada.

After Pearson/Penguin acquired Dorling Kindersley worldwide I was Managing Director of DK India for a couple of years while continuing with my duties at Penguin India.

My first job was with Himmat magazine in Bombay, when Rajmohan Gandhi hired me straight out of college to be a junior member of the editorial team. After Himmat shut down I worked as an editor with Dom Moraes and Leela Naidu at Keynote magazine and then with Minhaz Merchant at Gentleman magazine in a senior editorial role. That was my last full-time job in journalism - I then went off to the US to do a course in publishing, where I was hired and sent to Delhi to set up Penguin India's publishing programme by the legendary Chairman of Penguin Group, Peter Mayer. While I was in Bombay, I freelanced for various publications (Hindu, Indian Express, Mid-day, etc) when I was between magazine jobs.
