The best aspect of my job that's keeps me hooked is the variety that modelmaking provides. I have been in the industry for 16 years since leaving university and in that time I have worked on models from advertising, high end show room models to in-house modelmaking. This has provided a broad knowledge of materials and processes a long with an ever changing landscape of technology to use. I am currently a workshop manager responsible for the running of a small workshop including conventional machinery, laser cutter, 3D printers, COSHH and health and safety. A long side that I'm part of a small team that provides models to aid the architects in their design process which is fast paced and constantly brings up new challenges and problems to be solved to deliver an outstanding product on time. Working in-house has allowed me to be part of some amazing projects providing anything from small scale models where the fun is to see how much detail you can show to 1 to 1 mock ups where skills such as carpentry come into play. I'm looking to carry on with the skills I've learnt as well as to broaden them and improve.
