I have experience in both the experimental as well as the theoretical disciplines within physical chemistry. My experimental experience includes a focus on electrochemical methods and surface characterization. I have extensive experience using cyclic voltammetry techniques, chronoamperometry, Tafel plots and atomic force microscopy. As well as experience using scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, NMR spectroscopy and electron beam photolithography. My theoretical experience includes a focus on global optimization techniques, specifically basin-hopping, but also experience with minima-hopping and genetic algorithms. Research has also included works in heterogenous catalysis. During this research I have employed a variety of software packages including: Materials Studio, Gaussian, Amsterdam Density Functional, NWChem, and Vienna Ab initio Simulation Package. I have also gained experience writing scripts facilitating automation and data analysis using Bash, Python, and Fortran. During my time as an undergraduate and graduate student I have also taught undergraduates at various levels. I have extensive experience teaching general chemistry, analytical chemistry, and physical chemistry in both the lab and lecture halls. I was also appointed the supervisory TA for the general chemistry program at UNL. As the supervisory TA I was responsible for training all lab TAs, managing curriculum and lesson plans for TAs, as well as supervising safety practices of TAs and undergraduate students within the lab. For my work as supervisory TA I was awarded the John Sholz award for excellence as a graduate teaching assistant.
