Insight Catastrophe Managers is a small software company headquartered in Jersey City, NJ. Insight assists insurance companies with achieving superior risk-adjusted returns by delivering catastrophe analytics in real-time to streamline underwriting decision making. We offer solutions to insurance companies to help them grasp a better understanding of the long term profitability of a risk at the time of quoting, and we also can help them assess the same across an entire portfolio of property risks.

I was hired to start-up a new territory to sell homeowners insurance and expand Kingstone out from their domiciled state of New York, into New Jersey and across the northeast region. Challenges included low brand recognition, a small budget and staff, creating an entirely new product, and policy administration software system. We beat the bushes, cold-calling new agents and collaborating with a new system vendor. Our success looked like this: $1.9M in new business within the first year, growing to nearly $28M in written premium with a less than a 50% loss ratio, and a distribution network of over 300 new agencies by the third year.

Leading a global team of dedicated analysts with subject matter expertise in catastrophe risk modeling, model validation, underwriting decision automation, and portfolio management was exhilarating and challenging. We handled all KPIs exposure limits, catastrophe loss estimates, and profitability data required for executives and compliance reporting. During this period, I was nominated for the Leading Leaders program, representing within the elite 5% of top performers. In addition, I was featured in Reactions, an international insurance magazine, as one of the Top 50 Rising Stars.Initially, I joined AIG as Head of Catastrophe Underwriting in their Private Client Group to drive exposure data management, portfolio diversification, and catastrophe rate adequacy initiatives supporting division reinsurance renewal processes. Because of the improved ability to collect sufficient premiums, we controlled reinsurance expense and improved underwriting profit. I spent three years in this role.

I was brought on to manage complex catastrophe reinsurance contract opportunities for prospects and existing clients. I also applied my expertise in planning and implementing marketing strategies to bring in new clients and place program reinsurance.

Overseeing all risk modeling and analytics for Retail, Reinsurance, and Advisory/Capital brokerage divisions, for the property/casualty and life/accident/health lines of business. I managed 6 staff. We were tasked with producing reports for treaty reinsurance and wholesale brokerage clients. By controlling software and infrastructure expenses and arranging a fee-based analytics service for each of the brokerage divisions, expense growth was held to +3% per year maximum and I was ranked the 3rd highest producer.

I managed and supported contracted clients within the insurance, reinsurance, and reinsurance broker industries. Throughout these efforts, I became an expert modeler. Fast forward to my tenure at AIG, my relationship with RMS resulted in a model enhancement that improved underwriting and portfolio management operations for the high valued homes market.

This was one of my first jobs out of college. I designed network connectivity solutions across several divisions. I also was able to earn a Six Sigma Green Belt within a year by completing multiple quality improvement projects. Another highlight was discovering $1.5M in overbilling as a result of correcting and updating a database that was missing over 25K fields.
