FounderThe Upper Garden (Non-Profit) Mar 2010 - Sep 2012In honor of my late grandfather, Roger Coleson, The Upper Garden was a non-profit organization I started in the wee hours of the day when I didn't need to work or be there for my family. Through a partnership with a non-profit organization called EMERGE in North Minneapolis, we used the back lot of a vacant gas station to create a raised urban garden for at-risk youth starting in April through August. We challenged the kids to believe in the power of sun, soil and seed - with a healthy dose of patience and stewardship. In the end, the kids reaped what they sowed (literally) and developed a new skill and love for fresh food.
