My background is somewhat unique in that much of my career was spent in the medical field as an Army medic, nurse and physician assistant. I retired after 32-years in the military and have worked as the deputy and director of Hazardous Materials Emergency Response for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and am currently an adjunct faculty member with the BIDMC/Harvard Medical School Disaster Medicine Fellowship.After 9 years in this position, I started D2 Emergency Management Consulting to provide training, evaluation and assessment services in the field of emergency response and management. With my medical and CBRN/hazmat background and Master of Science Degrees in Physician Assistant Studies as well as in Emergency Management, I bring a specialized skillset and knowledge-base for teams and groups with the goal of improving their readiness and response postures.Director, Hazardous Materials Response and Special Operations, Department of Fire Services (January 2017-present) -The Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) Response Division oversees the operation of the Regional Hazardous Materials Response Teams throughout the state which are strategically located for a 30-minute response. The teams support local fire departments with technical information and specialized equipment to handle hazardous materials incidents. -The Special Operations section provides specialty vehicles, equipment and expertise in areas of communication, command support, drone operations and firefighter and law enforcement rehabilitation to support the incident commander at various incidents throughout the Commonwealth.Deputy Director, Hazardous Materials Response, Department of Fire Services (September 2014-January 2017)Deputy State Surgeon, Massachusetts Army National Guard, (February 2013-July 2013) -Full-time medical provider responsible for all medical assets of the Massachusetts Army National Guard.
