I began my career as a Political Science Professor at Wilfrid Laurier University in 1993. My17 years at Laurier included time spent as Chair of the Political Science Department and a term as Dean of Arts, the largest faculty at Laurier. I was also a commentator on political events both national and provincial and was frequently quoted on CBC, CTV and Global as well as in the national print media.in 2011, my wife Kris and I moved to Calgary when I was appointed President at Mount Royal University. Mount Royal had just recently transformed from a college to a university and during my time there we completed the transition, by among other things, adding four year degree programs and choices for our students. We definitely enjoyed our time in Alberta and took advantage of its world class skiing at every opportunity.After my term finished at MRU, I was honoured to accept the position at President and Vice-Chancellor at Brandon University. Kris and I have called Brandon home for over three years. I love the intimate nature of the city and the university and the fact that I can go home for lunch, something that was impractical in Calgary. Although much of our time in Brandon has been under pandemic conditions, we have enjoyed the hospitality of Western Manitoba and I have enjoyed working with a group of talented and dedicated people at BU.One of my favourite dates on the academic calendar is Convocation. After two years of remote convocations it was simply wonderful to host the 2022 convocations in person. Seeing graduates walking across the stage with pride and family and loved ones cheering them on was the perfect antidote to our long periods of isolation.
