Outside of my early experience in nuclear programs (Rover and Westinghouse Atomic Power), the bulk of my career was with General Atomics (GA) in San Diego, CA. As Principal Investigator and Manager, I served in programs within nuclear fission (HTGR), fusion, space power, Maglev, superconductivity, particle accelerators, electro-optics and several short term assignments. I have 5 patents, one still active, am a Senior Member of IEEE, Member of ASME and am a P.E. in Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering in California. For the last 14 years following retirement from GA, I have served as CTO, Marketing Manager and Principal Investigator in a small company carrying out R&D in superconductor (SC) manufacturing, SC magnets, material science (solid oxide membranes) and related systems. Although, partially retired, I remain active mentoring students, advising on R&D programs and substituting as an instructor at The Ohio State University. I recently began as a consultant to Hyperloop Transportation Technologies, Inc. advising on their propulsion and levitation.
