During 2001 I was employed with Imco Recycling, Swansea. My position was a supervisory role reporting directly to the operations manager. During this period, the company’s objectives were to increase application and service availability to staff (at all levels) by 10%. In turn it was anticipated that this would increase response times to customer demands and inquiries.Stringent procedures were introduced aimed at improving server integrity, security and recovery. This ensured compliance with organisational guidelines. There was also a review of login procedures. Other targets to be achieved included converting statistical data (of plant production percentages) into graphical representation. The conversion simplified the data allowing easier and faster interpretation. It also appeared to be more accurate and accessible. Further plans included an increase in network stations by 15%. Additional challenges included the introduction of a computerised maintenance management system (CMMS). This automated the production of management reports, including plant downtime and output reports.
