Wildlife And Education Ranger
Current- Environmental steward of parks and nature reserves in Ipswich. Part of a team of three. Key habitats include acid grassland , lowland heath, ancient woodland, flower rich meadows and Ponds. Management includes chainsawing, brush-cutter, Mowers and various hand tools. Majority of management is the prevention of succession to retain a Open habitat mosaics- Ecological Network Project- Assessment of habitats using plant communities via a Phase 1 template - Wildlife surveying, prioritizing protected /nationally scarce species- Analyzing data and writing ecological reports- Leading volunteers in practical tasks; working with conservation organisations, ecologists and contractors on practical and strategic projects; - Engaging with local communities and schools by delivering talks and leading guided walks; wildlife education; - Producing management plans; Being synergistic with other council teams i.e grounds maintenance and park patrol- Baseline and desktop survey techniques including utilizing resources such as GIS Maps, Google Earth, National Biodiversity Network Gateway and submitting data to local environmental/biological records centres.
