In this role, I balanced three key responsibilities: overseeing software engineering for the BD Diabetes Care App, managing the DevOps infrastructure for the platform, and contributing directly to software development tasks.This multifaceted role required strategic leadership in engineering, ensuring seamless platform operations, and hands-on involvement in coding to deliver a robust and reliable solution for diabetes care.

Driven by the sunset of a previous group and a personal passion for innovation, I transitioned from database administration and SQA to full-time software engineering. I joined a newly formed team dedicated to developing smart device solutions for diabetes patients. My journey began with a Java-based Vaadin web application designed to replicate a diabetes clinical dashboard. I developed the front end and data access layer, integrating with our newly adopted NoSQL database, DataStax. As we progressed to clinical studies, we transitioned to a corporate-friendly .NET stack. I built a clinician dashboard using AngularJS to manage study participants and their data, wrote C# Web APIs, and integrated authentication via Auth0. For a subsequent study with Partners Health in Boston, we adopted Couchbase as our NoSQL database due to its Sync Gateway capabilities. I authored the Web APIs, developed an authentication service, and managed the study’s infrastructure. As we prepared for a larger study in France, we were approached by another internal business unit seeking assistance. Our team adapted the existing stack to create the BD Diabetes Care App. I redesigned and enhanced the authentication service, integrating it with additional services for improved functionality. I also scaled the rules engine by incorporating Microsoft Orleans’ actor model framework, enabling better performance and scalability, while adding new features to support app enhancements. This role showcased my ability to pivot technologies, adapt to evolving business needs, and deliver impactful solutions in the healthcare domain.

I managed the deployment and administration of a large-scale Oracle database instance utilizing Automatic Storage Management (ASM). My responsibilities included overseeing the procurement, installation, and ongoing management of new servers to support the database infrastructure.The database housed millions of data points critical to the operation of a cell therapy multi-well plate analysis and reporting suite, ensuring reliable performance and scalability to meet the demands of the system.

In this role, I supported the development and release of the MPM suite, a software platform for multi-well plate analysis and reporting in cell therapy applications. My responsibilities included executing manual ad hoc testing for all software releases and leading the establishment of a quality system where none previously existed.I developed new templates, authored and maintained user and system requirements, and managed all SDLC documentation. I oversaw and contributed to multiple fully validated releases for spin-off products derived from the core system. Additionally, I automated test cases using QFTest, enhancing efficiency and reliability in the testing process.The skills I developed in test automation were instrumental in preparing me for a transition to software engineering, equipping me with a deeper understanding of quality assurance and software development practices.

Under the mentorship of an SQA Manager with over 20 years of experience, I developed a strong foundation in software testing principles. I created and documented repeatable test scenarios to validate system requirements, collaborating closely with a small team of testers to ensure comprehensive coverage and quality assurance.For my third and final project, I served as the test lead for a clinical reporting tool, where I successfully applied my skills to lead the validation effort. This project was completed under budget and ahead of schedule, demonstrating my ability to manage responsibilities effectively and deliver high-quality results.
