Background- born in Charlottetown, joined the CAF 1980, attended military college in St Jean, Quebec- 27 years as an officer (Infantry Officer, Health Care Administrator)- culminated as Commanding Officer 1 Canadian Field Hospital Petawawa- released in 2007, spent 9 years as a AS-05 manager in the CFB Petawawa Clinic (6000 soldiers)- Joined VAC August 2016 as COD’s Manager Planning & SupportProfessional Qualifications- Bach of Administration- Graduate of Canadian Land Force Command & Staff College- a wide variety of mil & civ courses which makes me a “generalist” as opposed to a specialist.Work Experience- My work experience is my strongest asset. My duties over 37 years in & out of uniform have taken me from one end of the spectrum to the other.- As an Infantry Officer, I trained and led soldiers in Canada and in the former Yugoslavia.- As a Health Care Administrator, I trained and led medical personnel in Canada and in Afghanistan.- As a civilian, I managed team of health care professionals for 9 years on one of Canada’s largest army bases.- My varied experience in CAF, DND, and VAC has provided me with an opportunity to look at veteran’s issues from multiple perspectives.- My day to day interaction with the Base Surgeon and other managers provided me with knowledge of the CAF Spectrum of Care, contemporary medical issues, and the evolution of health care , and the difficult transition that awaits soldiers before and after release.Summary- What makes me unique: I understand our clientele. I know how soldiers are trained, administered, and cared for. I understand their mindset and the reluctance to come forward and seek care while in uniform, and the impact that has on them later as vets seeking compensation. I understand the difficulties of their transition process. As a member of the VAC team and as veteran, I will treat your clients with the same care, compassion, respect that I would expect and that they deserve.
