CurrentBiographical sketch:David E. Mandelbaum is Professor of Neurology and Pediatrics at Brown University and attending in Child Neurology at Rhode Island and Hasbro Children’s Hospitals. Dr. Mandelbaum graduated from the MD-PhD program at Columbia University. After a pediatric residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital and neurology/child neurology training at the Neurological Institute at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, he spent 17 years as Director of Child Neurology at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and moved to Brown Medical School in 2003, where he was Director of Child Neurology from 2003-2016. Board certified in Pediatrics, Child Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology and Neurodevelopmental Disabilities, Dr. Mandelbaum’s clinical and research interests have focused on cognitive aspects of childhood epilepsy, neonatal neurology and autism. He is a member of the AAN (FAAN), CNS, ICNS and PCN, serves on the editorial boards of The Journal of Child Neurology and Pediatric Neurology, ad hoc reviewer for Epilepsia, Neurology, Biological Psychiatry and other journals, served 2 terms on the CNS practice committee and one term on the research committee and in 2017 was elected vice chair of the Child Neurology Section of AAN. Dr. Mandelbaum is manager of Judy’s Kindness Kitchen, a soup kitchen in Providence RI that prepares food for 2 homeless shelters every Sunday; the kitchen is named in memory of his mother. He served two terms on the Board of Directors of the Brown/RISD Hillel and is vice president of the Historic Beth Joseph Synagogue in Tupper Lake, NY. He is taking piano lessons but does not anticipate being able to give up his day job. He is joyfully married to Alison. His daughter Danya and son-in-law Michael, both educators of whom he is very proud, have provided the greatest gift of all: 2 grandchildren!! (Portrait on the profile by Ollie at age 5).
