Richmond, Virginia, United States

Aug 2021 - Present

Director Of Marketing & Communications, College Of Biological Sciences

Davis, Ca

I held direct responsibility for communications and marketing on behalf of approximately 132 faculty, 400 staff, 6,000 undergraduates and 425 graduate students. This operational purview spanned the college’s five academic departments, nine graduate groups and four campus-wide centers. With in-house and external teams, we forged powerful alliances, advocating and communicating on behalf of some of the most talented students, faculty and staff in the fields of life sciences.

Jun 2016 - Aug 2020

Assistant General Manager

Phoenix, Arizona Area

GreenFuel Technologies is a vertically-integrated EPC firm specializing in Solar PV, Solar Thermal, EV Charging Stations, Energy Efficiency retrofits, and Project Financing. Taking a holistic approach to client's energy needs, we provide comprehensive solutions to maximize financial energy independence. As Assistant GM, I worked directly with the CEO and senior admin team to research, develop, and implement corporate marketing strategy including: website ideation & content creation, landing page development, email & social media campaigns, SEO keyword search, tradeshow event coordination & management, and survey architecture and evaluation. Working with Operations, I also refined critical workflow paths and organizational reporting structure, developing procedural manuals for numerous business departments. I also approved purchase orders and managed vendor invoices, monitoring and updating product inventories. As director of customer service, I was point of contact for all inbound issues and concerns, keeping careful records of projects, clients, and leads with CRM software. Responsible for editing and approving all outgoing communications and marketing collateral, I created persuasive and informative materials across multiple digital and print mediums. Handling all public relations initiatives, I also developed numerous community relationships and implemented outreach and CSR programs and events. In addition to these tasks, I also executed special projects as directed by CEO.

Jun 2011 - May 2012

Sustainable Education Program Coordinator

Race 2 Energy Independence

Phoenix, Arizona Area

Partnered with the Izod IndyCar Series, Race 2 Energy Independence is a traveling tour designed to educate race fans about improving their energy independence through understanding of best practices in energy efficiency, renewable energy, recycling, and sustainability. Using the sustainability initiatives of the Izod IndyCar series itself, the mission is to demonstrate that everyone has something gain by becoming more aware of just how energy affects their life. Politically neutral, the R2Ei program operates from the understanding that not every technology or behavior is right for everyone. However, with so many possibilities and options, there is a fit for every lifestyle that will measurably impact energy costs and social awareness. In this capacity, I developed media pitch kits, coordinated and managed outreach events with schools, local community organizations, and IndyCar races, created digital educational programs and surveys, and analyzed and categorized real-time consumer marketing data from events.

Jun 2011 - May 2012

Project Manager

Net Impact Service Corps Financial Energy Audit

This was a community service outreach project to identify affordable ways to reduce energy consumption in the administration building of campus. Essentially, I headed a group that planned and created an inventory of all the electrical consumption in the building, including lights, electronics, HVAC, etc. The main objective was to identify the "low-hanging fruit", in other words, figure out the cheapest ways to eliminate waste and inefficiency. Once our audit was completed, I compiled the information into a financial model on Excel and used financial analysis to discount future investments to their respective NPVs. Though the campus facilities team was eager to improve energy savings, prior to our work, there was little understanding of what the actual associated costs were, due to a lack of smart metering, or direct metering for that matter. Once NPV investment analysis was performed, my final task was to present this information, objectively quantified in hard numbers, to the facility director. The result was that I improved the institutional understanding of benefits associated with implementing efficient technology, as well as turning abstract yearning for improved energy management into concise and direct monetary savings. For more information on this project, please see my PPT on the slideshow applet, or contact me directly.

Sep 2010 - Dec 2010

Communications Coordinator

Namastera Environmental & Management Consulting

For this extended internship, I was working closely with the senior executives of a consulting management start-up to implement a social media marketing strategy. Working with an emerging business provided great experience to help and generate input and ideation with different sections of the organization. In addition to social media posting on Twitter and other social media sites, I was also tasked with streamlining and enhancing the company website content to better communicate company vision and strategic goals. When not preparing and integrating media presentations for clients, I also authored a blog (see my blog section) for the purpose of educating clients and the general public to the overwhelming benefits of adherence to the Triple Bottom Line of ecological health, social justice, and economic security. My work resulted in a clearer and visionary communication interface of the company website, making it easier for prospective clients to learn about our services and identify with our vision. The blogging and social media resulted in raising awareness and educating executive clients, as well as cross-promoting the business to the public. Finally, utilizing social media improved the marketing of our sister business, which is dedicated to connecting sustainable business professionals to like-minded community members, effectively raising the attendance of our networking events.
