1x1 Design is a comparatively younger firm in the Columbia, SC area, but has quickly made a name for itself in the community, establishing its reputation as a client-focused, high-quality firm with a focus on both adaptive re-use and contemporary, community-oriented architecture. During my time at 1x1 as an Intern Architect, I worked on various residential, commercial, and institutional projects from existing documentation and planning through construction administration, in both intern and project manager roles. Working directly with the City of Columbia Design Development Review Committee, which oversees new development and alterations in historic districts around the city, I handled applications and followup meetings with staff for design approval, ensuring designs conformed with local building restrictions.

When I joined Brown Design Studio, it was located in the Traditional New Urban development of Habersham, just outside of Beaufort, SC., offering a stunning and inspiring backdrop to the Classical architecture I was helping to produce. Brown Design relocated to downtown Savannah, GA in the spring of 2014. Among my responsibilities were the following:* Converting sketches to hard-lined AutoCAD drawings* Developing working plans, sections, and elevations for residential and commercial development* Participating in historical architecture and urban planning precedent research and documentation* Preparing presentation slideshows and marketing graphics* Office organization, which included cleaning out company server folders and updating template files* Contributing to the company blog* Corresponding over email and phone with clients and developers* Assembling and modified final construction document sets.* Working with our web developer to bring plan ordering portion of the website online* Creating templates for company marketing books
