The Vodafone response to the Rural Broadband Programme involved the establishment of wireless (3/4G) construct to meet the government’s coverage and speed objectives for rural NZ, the establishment of wholesale telco products able to meet crown, industry and internal objectives, and the formation and establishment of a JV with Telecom (Chorus) to provide fibre backhaul.

Utilising an innovative technical solution, the cut-over was managed over a single week-end and the NZ telco went live on NZ-based infrastructure at Easter 2011.

David also lead the development of a new Revenue Management System using XML-based technology from Idiom, and was involved in the trialling of handhelds and RFID to change the rail service paradigm to devolve operations from the service desk to re-focus on field operations.
