I have served in education for over 25 years at both the high school and collegiate levels. I have been a coach, assistant principal and athletics director, most recently as the Director of Athletics at Tabor College. During my career, I have been fortunate enough to be named coach-of-the-year several times, the KIAAA Athletic Director of the Year, Assistant Principal of the Year, KMEA Outstanding Administrator of the Year, and others. I have had the privilege of leading others through various leadership roles, including Hi-Plains League President and the President of the KIAAA. I have also served as a KSHSAA football chairperson and currently chair the KCAC Championships committee. While working at Cimarron High School, I served on the KSHSAA Board of Directors for two years and also was selected to serve on a special committee for the KSHSAA to look at re-classification of member schools.Success as a coach has helped me in leading people as well. During my first stint at Tabor, I was an assistant men's basketball coach on five conference championship teams, three of which qualified for the NAIA National Tournament. The final trip resulted in a Final Four appearance. I also served as the head men and women's tennis coach for three years. I coached two conference singles champions and one NAIA National Tournament qualifier. After moving to the high school ranks, several of my teams were league champions and by girls basketball teams made four trips to the state tournament, finishing second twice. While at Cimarron, my teams won 82% of their games and several players moved on to play collegiately. I also coached one KBCA Miss Kansas during my time there. I have been fortunate enough to never suffer a losing season. I have also coached a boys golf team to a fourth place state finish, and had several individuals qualify for the state meet in golf, track and tennis. I have also been a speaker at the KSHSAA Coaches School and hosted many events for KSHSAA.Having great communication and organizational skills, as well as being clear on expectations and being prepared, are all keys to my success. However, the biggest key has been surrounding myself with great people and allowing them to have a voice into what we are trying to accomplish.
