KENTWOOD COMMUNITY CHURCH • Kentwood, Michigan • Large, contemporary church of 2,700 members with emphasis on outreach, missions, and music.Pastor of Spiritual FormationRecruited to develop vision, infrastructure, and plan for creating programs in discipleship, outreach, and evangelism. Recruited all program volunteers and provided extensive training to fill positions in efforts such as special events, block outreach, friend day, week of witness, one-to-one discipleship, harvest night, summer Sunday picnics, cappuccino ministries, and mass marketing. Initiated the use of technology to reach new members, including TV commercials and tel-a-ministry (7,500 calls annually).Major Contributions:• Launched the Small Groups and Evangelism function, growing from establishing a vision to starting 80 small groups in just 2 years.• Attracted more than 600 people into the program to receive Christ and developed a system of discipleship classes, monthly notes, and reading materials that retained 90% of people at the church and 80% in small group activity after 2 years.• Established an Assimilation System that tracked and made 7 contacts in a person’s first 10 visits to the church.
