About David Ellis

z/OS software developer. Done pretty much everything from being an operator, application development, database design and systems programming to software design and development.I also love to explore new technologies and ways of interacting with the mainframe.My first love is assembler although I am pretty well versed in many other languages including REXX, Cobol and C.These days, what drives me is the desire to make software more 'consumable'. People don't have the luxury of simple products and plenty of time to learn them in depth any more (like I had), it's all about speed and I believe that we as developers should absorb the pain and make it easy for the end user to use our products.At the end of the day, we are tool makers and tools that are hard to use get replaced by better ones. That was true in my father's time (as a mechanical engineer) and I think it is still true today.

    I worked in a number of teams since joining IBM as part of an acquisition in 2000. Originally I supported the Event Pump component of Tivoli Business Systems Manager (TBSM) until IBM acquired Candle in 2004 at which point I joint the OMEGAMON teams. I worked on the z/OS, Storage and the CICS products as well as with other teams in a collaborative mode when needed.I also interacted with customers as needed as well as supporting some directly in a technical role.
