I work on Time Based Flow Management (TBFM), a software program used across the National Airspace System (NAS) to produce metering advisories. At the heart of TBFM is an algorithm which takes in flight track data in real time (or as close as the state of the art, radar, allows, which is every 6-12 seconds) for all of the flights flying in a particular region and produces an optimized schedule for those flights based on a number of parameters from airport and metering reference point configurations to various aircraft properties.The program's components that I've worked on are written in C, C++, and Java. My biggest project to date has been developing a component in Java that queries an internal http server, processes XML data received using JAXB, and publishes the processed data using JMS to a WebLogic server.
