I have been producing an independent magazine for over 20 years and it shows no sign of succumbing to the overhyped 'death of print media'​ - in fact the publication is very much still in growth. I write around 80% of the copy in the seasonal magazine, which is currently 152 pages. A Graphic Artist by profession, my 'all rounder' skills have played an important role in creating a viable business model. If there is a message to other small business people in all this - keep it lean - and concentrate on what you do best. If you are the best at what you do, you are not only undistracted by competition, but you can also defy market trends and even create your own markets.
