(DFA) in 2000 with a prescient focus onsustainable design. The design philosophy of DFA is a natural and logical outgrowth of themodernism founded and developed in Chicago over the last two centuries, further enriched by asensitivity to the responsible use of natural resources, a minimal intrusion into the environment,and the ultimate comfort and well-being of the building occupants. As owner and President ofDFA, Mr. Fleener manages all aspects of the practice, including design, constructionadministration, project management, business development, and office management. He hasoverseen the completion of an extensive array of project types and scopes, including single andmulti-family residential, health care, hospitality, retail, commercial office, and historicpreservation. As a past adjunct professor at IIT and University of Wisconsin, Mr. Fleener believes mentoring future architects to be essential.Following his graduation from IIT Mr. Fleener worked for ten years with Skidmore, Owings andMerrill in their Chicago, Manila, and Los Angeles offices. From 1987 to 2000 he worked with DirkLohan at Lohan Associates.Mr. Fleener is a City of Chicago Department of Buildings Self-Certified Professional; a City ofChicago Registered Energy Professional; and a LEED AP. He has taught as an AdjunctProfessor at the Illinois Institute of Technology (2005-2009) and at the University of WisconsinMilwaukee (2011). His publications include contributions to the monographs “Myron Goldsmith:Buildings and Concepts” and “Dirk Lohan: Buildings and Projects of Lohan Associates” as wellas articles in The Wall Street Journal, Interior Design, Hospitality Design, and Green Building andDesign. His work is also featured in the book “International Fashion Wellness Space: Spa +Beauty + Salon”.In addition to the above, Mr. Fleener is always open to new opportunities.
