Directed the pre-clinical research group consisting of 5 Ph.D. scientists and 3 research associates. The research programs included: discovery of novel vaccine antigens for infectious disease, development of the vaccine patch technology and evaluation of adjuvants for transcutaneous immunization. Programs included: evaluation of heat labile enterotoxin of E. coli as an adjuvant and ETEC vaccine, transcutaneous delivery and immune response to anthrax protective antigen and influenza vaccines and generation of a novel toxin chimera as a vaccine candidate for C. difficile (managed program from pre-clinical to clinical development).Other responsibilities included: • Initiated and managed external research collaborations.• Provided reports to support regulatory filings.• Involved in technology in-licensing and research partnering.

Responsible for the establishment of the clinical immunology serology laboratory. Activities included:• Management and training of 3 – 5 Clinical Immunology Research Associates.• Directed and managed assay development, qualification and validation. • Coordinated clinical sample testing with Clinical Department.• Introduced robotics for high-through-put clinical sample testing.

Managed infectious disease/tumor antigen discovery program with supervision of one Ph.D. scientist and 3 research associates. Company researched focused on the identification of peptides derived from cancer cells (lung, prostate and ovarian cancer) and M. tuberculosis recognized by T cells. Activities included: development of tumor cell lines from clinical specimens, isolation and establishment of dendritic cell cultures, generation of antigen-specific T cell lines, isolation of MHC:peptide complexes for HPLC analysis.

Directed the T cell expansion program. Optimization of T-cell cultivation (human and murine) to >10^9 cells for adoptive T cell immunotherapy. Evaluation of the role of cytokines, antigen presenting cells and functional antibodies required for T cell expansion and the analysis of expanded T cell populations in in vitro assays and in in vivo models.

Taught Medical Microbiology, Immunology to medical students and Advanced Immunology to graduate students.Developed and managed a research program focused on the identification of viral and tumor antigens directing the in vivo cellular immune response to murine leukemia viruses. Research was supported by: NIH New Investigator Award, American Cancer Society Junior Faculty Award, NIH R01 Research Award (Principal Investigator).
