Served as HealthSpan’s Medicare Compliance Officer and Chief Privacy Officer. Led a team of individuals responsible for identification, correction, auditing, and monitoring of Medicare compliance issues and implementing HealthSpan’s HIPAA privacy program.• Reported directly to HealthSpan’s CEO and Audit Committee. Participated in quarterly HealthSpan Board of Directors Audit Committee meetings and provide quarterly reports to the Board on compliance risks to the organization and steps taken to mitigate those risks. • Created a corporate compliance program for HealthSpan, including a code of conduct, conflict of interest policies, compliance training for employees, hotline reporting, an internal investigations process, and policies for corporate compliance. Recruited and hired staff to implement the program. • Developed HealthSpan’s regulatory compliance program for all lines of business, including the requirements of the Affordable Care Act, state insurance law, HIPAA, Medicare Advantage, Cost, and Part D, and the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program (FEHBP). Served as HealthSpan’s liaison to state and federal regulators.

• Headed Medical Mutual’s regulatory relations program and managed projects involving the implementation of new regulatory requirements. Developed relationships with state and federal regulators, co-chaired a company working group responsible for the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, and handled legal and regulatory issues related to acquisitions. Managed the company’s response to market conduct and financial examinations. Led a group responsible for implementing Ohio’s High Risk Pool under the Affordable Care Act. • Served as the company’s Deputy Compliance Officer. Provided quarterly updates Medical Mutual’s Board of Directors Audit Committee on corporate and regulatory compliance issues. Managed staff responsible for developing and implementing the company’s compliance and ethics program, including the code of conduct, employee training, resolution of conflict of interest issues, hotline reporting, and internal investigations.
