About David Forey

I pride myself on my clinical assessment skills targeting the more challenging callers bringing their encounters to a successful end point. I am practiced and skilful at the synthesis of complex health needs and able to engage with the wider multidisciplinary team. I have a good appreciation of the issues surrounding child protection, and safeguarding vulnerable adults issues and my responsibilities with regard to referral and follow up and how this applies to the telehealth environment. I am very much involved in working with young people. I am a Dad to 2 energetic boys both of which play rugby. Through this I am now a coach with the Under 11 Team with Newton Abbot RFC. At this age group winning is not the main aim, though we are proud of our successes. I am a RAF Reserve Officer working with young people who join and participate in St Peter’s Church Aided High School Combined Cadet Force. As part of a small team I present the Cadets with life skills training through a Military framework. I teach range of skills from first aid to flying. Being the only qualified nurse on the staff I am the appointed the Child Welfare Officer. Any child is welcome to the Contingent no matter their academic or physical ability. I liaise with parents and the school to ensure that the challenges we present are accessible to all.All through my career I have faced challenges and through perseverance, dedication, enthusiasm and experience I have risen to those challenges and succeeded.

I support individuals to access the appropriate level of care including advice on how to manage their symptoms at home. In my professional capacity I apply critical thinking and analysis during the care process to provide accurate advice and health information to patients to empower them to act upon the advice given. I work independently and am responsible and accountable for managing my own approach to workload, risk assessment, risk management and clinical governance utilizing skills in mental health, child protection and other aspects of general nursing. Working in telehealth has vastly expanded my knowledge base, service delivery skills and given me access to a wide and up-to-date range of information and resources. As a reflective practitioner I stay in touch with the wider Health Community by engaging in my local RCN Branch, listening to a diverse range of health related material on the internet and other outlets and participating in social media conversations on a wide range of subjects Show less

Nursing in prisons is comparable to working as a practice nurse but is arguably more challenging, with higher a concentration of patients needing help for mental health and substance misuse problems. In this role I acquired many of the public health skills associated with primary care nursing, including health needs assessment, screening and health promotion. Establishing and maintaining positive relationships in this unique environment requires a special blend of compassion, people skills and vigilance as well as strong clinical competence and an understanding of the pressures felt by both prisoners and the multidisciplinary team.
