I work independently and am responsible and accountable for managing my own approach to workload, risk assessment, risk management and clinical governance utilizing skills in mental health, child protection and other aspects of general nursing. In this role I acquired many of the public health skills associated with primary care nursing, including health needs assessment, screening and health promotion. Establishing and maintaining positive relationships in this unique environment requires a special blend of compassion, people skills and vigilance as well as strong clinical competence and an understanding of the pressures felt by both prisoners and the multidisciplinary team.
