The General Manager of Tsuut’ina Contracting General Partner oversees & directs construction on and off Nation Lands. The mandate is to engage with Nation and non-Nation contractors to execute construction projects. Responsibilities include assign & tender contracts to sub-contractors, direct & oversee construction & other work, budgets, project schedules & liaison with Nation departments & programs. This position reports to the CEO Nation Enterprises. • Provided senior leadership for all general contracting on the Nation• Managed construction contracts within approved guidelines & capital budget appropriations• Contract preparation & negotiations including contract values, deliverables, terms & conditions; legal accountability to assure that all Nation’s financial & legal interests are protected & liabilities minimized• Fiscal & project planning including project permitting & construction supervision; project lifecycle, inception to closeout• Business planning, development & negotiation of strategic joint ventures for commercial & economic development to expand revenue streams• Mentorship of aboriginal talent; directs supervisory personnel & contractors• Customer first service focus and conflict resolution in an emotionally challenged environmentAccomplishments• Managed the company over 6 fiscal quarters & took the company from a - $450K loss to + $250K profit• Promoted a positive health & safety culture at the Nation & provided guidance in creating a Health & Safety program for Nation companies and the Nation• Learned the ways of the Indigenous Peoples, understand the culture & society of First Nations; promoted economic reconciliation• Strategized to create an alliance with another Nation company, Sarcee Gravel to create an dual Nation contracting alliance• Engaged with 15 Nation contractors to create a Nation contractor force to engage with Nation contractors to execute work in conjunction with non-Nation contractors on the TAZA development.
