Member of Elsevier Labs, a global advanced development group supporting business and publishing groups within Elsevier worldwide.Worked with the ScienceDirect team to create and develop many new ideas that have become part of the current version.Developed the algorithms and toolset used to identify poor-quality figures in older scanned articles. Called "The Rescanning Project", this system analyzed 19 million pages and identified 600,000 pages containing poor-quality images. Estimated to have saved the company USD 1.5M and was awarded a prize for innovation.Document submission and reviewing. Interactive graphs and tables. New types of major reference work. Worked with publishing units in Amsterdam and Oxford to develop new products and services.Pioneer of web-based delivery of content into vertical markets (together with Anne Vindenes Allen), which included the creation of a comprehensive portal for the environmental sciences, which was very well received by the market.Systems created include "Databox" for bulk email services and "ViEW" for submission and review of journal articles, based on my experience as journal editor, both of which were fully operational for many years.

Head of Science Park Operation. Managed daily operation. Developed working relation with the Science Park and the Dutch National Institute for High Energy Physics NIKHEF.Developed concept, designed and implemented Elsevier's first web service "Nuclear Physics Electronic", including a search engine created from scratch for the physics domain.Additional experience includes: Consulting Editor of Nuclear Physics A, creating the Nuclear Physics Information Exchange, developing the GreaTeX publishing package, and nuclear physics research at The Rutherford Laboratory, Harwell and Birmingham University.
