During his time at Children's Hospital Boston, the Children's Department of Ophthalmology has grown to become the largest pediatric ophthalmology department in the nation and perhaps the world, with more than 30 full-time faculty, including pediatric ophthalmology subspecialists in nearly every aspect of ophthalmology as well as full-time research faculty. The department also has created 7 endowed chairs as well as an endowed international observership to support clinical and basic research, teaching, and the worldwide dissemination of advances in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus. Dr. Hunter is co-author of the books Last Minute Optics and Learning Strabismus Surgery, and he has produced a podcast on optics and refraction for ophthalmologists-in-training. He has also co-developed a device that will allow pediatricians to detect amblyopia in the office with high accuracy using a 2.5 second test, and has founded a company, Rebion, to bring this product to market.
